PWRC Athletes Qualify USA’s Two Olympic Slots!
The 2011 Canoe Slalom World Championships just ended in Bratislava, Slovakia. After two days of cancelled runs and waiting because of high winds, BCE athlete Caroline Queen of Darnstown, MD, placed 37th in women’s kayak, securing a slot for the USA next year’s Olympics. Ashley Nee of Germantown, MD, placed 47th. While neither athlete moved on to the semis we are very pleased with our Olympic berth in K-1W. Congratulations Caroline!
In men’s kayak Scott Parsons of Bethesda, MD, placed 34th in the qualifying round securing himself a spot in the semi-final round. In Sunday’s semifinal, Scott Parsons, placed 15th. Scott had a fast raw time; a 2-second penalty on gate 4 kept Scott from qualifying for the finals. “I’m disappointed with the touch on my run, for sure. But I’m glad that we have the slot for the Olympics and I can focus on making the Olympic team.”
